Explanation / Answer

2. (a) 2NaOH+CO2=Na2CO3+H2O This is the reaction which shows that NaOH is a good absorber of CO2. CO2 being acidic oxide, it's expected to react with alkali like NaOH forming salt and water.

(b)According to the titration result molar conc of NaOH is 0.119 mol/L. Original concentration of NaOH is little more as a part of NaOH is consumed by the CO2 dissolved in unboiled water.

Now let's first find how much NaOH is reacted with the CO2 present. 2 mol of NaOH is used for 1 mole CO2. Thus for 1.2*10^-5 M CO2 will consume 2*1.2*10^-5 NaOH. Thus actual concentration of NaOH is (0.119+2.4*10^-5) mol/L

(c) The gdifference is not large enough. It's too small to detect.
