Question
I have 4 different concentrations of Fe (mg Fe/mL solutions), and 4 different absorbance at 508nm. When plotting absorbance on y-axis, and concentration on x-axis, and doing a linear trend line I got the equation: y=0.2331x-0.216 and the R^2 value = 0.9175
i had 4 standard solutions. 1mL, 2mL, 5mL, and 10 mL. absorbance was 0.089 for 1mL, 0.189 fro 2mL, 0.390 for 5mL, and 0.799 for 10 mL. the abrorbance for the Fe tablet solution was 0.306. (all at 508nm)
using the linear equation, determine the mass of the Fe tablet: Fe content of the tablet is 27 mg
Fe tablet solution absorbance?
Fe tablet concentration from the equation (mg/mL)?
Mass of Fe in the tablet (mg)?
% error in the Fe mass?
please help!
Explanation / Answer
y=0.2331x-0.216
Substituting the value of absorbance in the above equation in place of Y will give you the value of x which the concentration inmg/mL unit.
y=0.2331x-0.216
or, 0.306 = 0.2331x-0.216
or, x = 0.386mg/mL
Fe tablet absorbance = 0.306
Fe tablet concentration = 0.386 mg/mL
Mass of Fe in the tablet = 0.386 mg/mL * volume of the solution in which u have dissolved the tablet
% error = [27mg- calculated mass/27 mg] *100% =
