You must show work for full credit; Please circle your answer. 1) a) What characteristic of water allows it to dissolve ionic solids? b) Why does water not dissolve motor oil? 2) A dilute solution of boric acid, H_3BO_3, is often used as an eyewash. Calculate how much H_3BO_3 is required to prepare 500.0 mL of a 0.50% (w/v) boric acid solution, and describe how you would go about preparing the solution. 3) The concentration of glucose (C_6H_12O_6) in blood is approximately 90 mg/100 mL. What is the w/v% concentration of glucose? What is the molarity of glucose?Explanation / Answer
1)
a) Water dissolves all ionic solids because it is highly polar so it will dissolve ionic solids by making them possitive and negative ions
(b) oil molecules are completely non polar they will not have any charge so they will be attracted between the oil molecules than by water molecule so it will not dissolve in water
