for the combustion of benzene, 75 g of benzene were reacted with 25 g .. only need Part C In last week's lab we measured the amount of Cu(OH)2 produced. Why did we not measure Na2SO4 produced? For the combustion of benzene, if 75 g of benzene were reacted with 25 gof oxygen gas, what would be the limiting reagent for production of CO2? I hnol ns 13. o Au mot ct.H mol 31.3 5.3 x 25 5.1 B. If 10 g of CO2 was formed, what is the percent yield? u 2. Amo O O C. What is the excess reagent and how many grams are left after the reaction is complete. een Tene is excess re were leftExplanation / Answer
C.
Benzene is the excess reagent
amount of benzene = 75g
Molecular weight of of benzene = 78.1 g/mol
Moles of benzene = 75g/78.1gmol-1 = 0.96 mole
Amount of oxygen = 25g
Moles of oxygen = 25g/32gmol-1 = 0.78 mole
1 mole of benzene requires 7.5 moles of oxygen. We dont have that much of oxygen.
7.5 moles of oxygen is required for one mole of benzene
0.78 moles of oxygen (limiting reagent) require ( 1 x 0.78/ 7.5)= 0.104 mol of benzne
0.104 mole is equal to 8.12 g (0.104 mole x 78.1 g/mole)
So 8.12 g of benzene is consumed.
The amount of benzene left unreacted = 75- 8.12= 66.88g
