Question
What do the following reaction results from a lab in biochemistry conclude about the size of NaCl compared to the size of BSA? Explain.
tube 1--5 mL distilled water--no reaction so tested positive for Chlorine
tube 2--100 uL distilled water--solution turned brown to no BSA present
tube 3--.5 mL BSA/Cl mixure--white ppt formed so chlorine is present
tube 4--100 uL BSA/Cl mixure--solution turned blue so BSA is present
tube 5--5 mL of solution after dialysis--cloudy ppt formed so chlorine is present
tube 6--100 uL of solution after dialysis--solution turned brown so no BSA is present
Explanation / Answer
NaCl is in smallar in size as compared to the size of BSA. if you look the above reaction, in every case the nacl required volume was always high when compared to BSA.due to wich the every chemical raction for chlorine reqired huge volume.but due to high size and molecular weight of the BSA the avialbility for the chemical raction make it easy to analyse and reqires very low quantity.
