Describe the three ingredients necessary for love, according to Sternberg’s triangle.
Which do you believe is the most important? Why?
Do you believe all three of the ingredients are absolutely necessary for love? Why or why not?
Explanation / Answer
The three ingredients necessary for love according to Sternberg's theory are :
(A) Passion - This includes the sexual attraction , also the excitement
(B) Intimacy - Being together and make love , being close
(C) Commitment - This includes trust , loyalty.
The most important one is Commitment because the most important point of a relationship is Trust. If you don't trust your partner than there is no meaning left in the relationship and these kind of relationships do not last long . For long term relationships it is most important that you trust your partner and be loyal to him/her.
For a perfect relationship all the three ingredients are important. If all the three ingredients are there then the relationship thus formed would be ideal in case of love as well as trust and it would last for a long time.
Relationships with two ingredients would focus more on the part of Romance or Friendship kind of relationship where trust is not there so it would be less stable.
If only one of them is present than you can pretty much guarantee that it is not love but attraction for the opposite sex.
