Question
Pre-lab Titration of Acids and Bases Questio Before beginning this experiment in the laboratory, you should be able to answer following questions. 1. Define standardization and state how you would go about doing it. 2. Define the term titration. 3. Define the term molarity. 4. Why do you weigh by difference? 5. What are equivalence points and end points? How do they differ? 6. Why should the standarized NaoH solution be kept in a stoppered bottle? 7. What is parallax? Why should you avoid it? Standardization is the proedure by which we are calculating the concentration of given solution.
2) Titration is one of the analytical technique used in standardization. In this, an known concentration of standard is used to find the unknown concentration of another solution.
3) Molarity is no of moles per litre of solution. It is measure of the concentration of solution
4)While weighing, some of the compounds may stick to the weighing pan even after transferring the compound. If we calculate wothout considering this there will be error measurement. To avoid this we take the difference
5) Equivalence point is the volume at which the number of moles of titrant equal to the number of mole of analyte. End point is the volume at which there will be avisible indication of the termination of titration
6)NaOH can be react with CO2 in atmosphere and therefore by reducing the concentration of NaOH. Hence it is kept in stoppered bottle.
7) parallax is an effect by which there is deviation in the direction oor position when viewed from different positions. Due to parallax, there will be error in measurements. Hence we should avoid this.
