Question

Write out the correct chemical reaction equation described. Be sure to include the states of matter (solid, liquid, gas, aqueous). Copper solid placed in a solution of silver nitrate forms metallic silver and a solution of copper(II) nitrate. Mixing solutions of sodium chloride and silver nitrate produces a solution of sodium nitrate and a silver chloride precipitate. Hydrogen gas and nitrogen gas react together to make ammonia gas. Solid cobalt metal is oxidized to cobalt(III) oxide. Nitric acid neutralizes sodium hydroxide to produce a solution of sodium nitrate and water. A gray chunk of cesium metal is added to water, creating explosive sparks, bubbles of hydrogen gas, and dissolved cesium hydroxide.

Explanation / Answer

1. Cu (s) + 2 AgNO3 (aq) ------> 2 Ag(s) + Cu(NO3)2 (aq)

2. NaCl (aq) + AgNO3  (aq) ------> AgCl(s) + NaNO3 (aq) AgCl is insoluble in water so AgCl will precipitate as solid

3. 3 H2 (g) + N2 (g) ---------> 2 NH3 (g)

4. 4 Co (s) + 3 O2 (g) --------> 2 Co2O3   (s)

5. NaOH (aq) + HNO3 (aq) ------> NaNO3 (aq) + H2O (l)

6. 2 Cs (s) + 2 H2O (l) --------> 2 CsOH (aq) + H2 (g)
