Question

I need help in this problem I have been trying it so many times and it is still wrong.

I firt put the complete balanced equation: SO32-(aq) + Cu2+(aq) +2OH-(aq) ----->SO42-(aq) + Cu(s) + H2O(l)

But it was wrong!

Then I put SO32- + H2O ---> SO42- + 2H+ + 2 e-

For a particular redox reaction so is oxidized to SO and Cu2+ is reduced to Cu Complete and balance the equation for this reaction in basic solution. Phases are optional. 2 Cu SO HLO SO 2H 2 Cu Incorrect Your answer would be correct for acidic solution. In basic solution, you can add H20 and OH but not H

Explanation / Answer

The correct answer is :

2 Cu2+ + SO32- + 2 OH- ------> SO42- + 2 Cu+ + H2O

If you are seeking more explanation on the answer please let me know. Have a nice day :)
