Question

Which food sample had the highest number calories per gram? Are you surprised by these findings? Which of the foods above stores the most energy? Why it is important to calculate calories per gram rather than calories burned? 1.150 g of sucrose goes through combustion in a bomb calorimeter. If the temperature rose from 23.42 degree C to 27.64 degree C and the calorimeter constant was 4.90 kJ/ degree C, determine the heat of combustion of sucrose in kj/mol. Copy the data in the table below into a spreadsheet. Calculate the energy content in units of Cal/oz based on the mass and temperature data. Show one sample calculation. compare your results with the energy content listed on the label. Calculate the percent error for each sample. Rank the snack from lowest to highest energy content Explain why the snack with the highest energy content (in Cal/oz) has more calc than the one with the lowest energy content.

Explanation / Answer

Ans 1 . Crunchy cheetos had highest calories per gram .

As the cheetos is deep fried in oil ( fats), and is loaded with cheese, the lipid quotient in the food sample is enormously high . The almost same amount of calories are also present in oil roasted , salted peanuts .

The energy yield of fatty acids is more than glucose , and so lipids is also used as the long term energy storage in our body .

And No you shouldn't be surprised by these findings because we already know , that lipids contain high amount of energy , so any thing that is fried or loaded with fats , will have enormous calories.
