A 32-year.old lawyer presents to your office complaining of: ?1 have a sore on my penis and it?s not painful. Ten days earlier, he attended a conference in Southeast Asia. On examination, a painless genital ulcer is noted at the base of the penis. The ulcer is raised with indurated margin. Inguinal lymphadenopathy is noted but painless on palpation. Which laboratory test would you request to confirm your diagnosis? What is the most likely diagnosis? What is the medical management? What do you advise this lawyer? List the different stages to this condition along with the clinical findings and clinical prognosis.

Explanation / Answer

1. Physical examination of penis and Serologic Test.

2. Diagnosis would be presence of genital ulcer but the exact cause can be determined after the examination and test results.

3. Medical management would include daily medicines which have to be taken in proper dosage as directed . Medicines include Antibiotics , Antiviral medicines , Corticosteroids and pain relievers.

4. The lawyer should be advised to practice safe sex and continuous treatment should be carried for infections and the medicines should continue. Sitz bath can also give some amount of relief.
