Question
Professionals in a scientific laboratory and in the healthcare field need to accurately prepare solutions for a number of reasons.
If you wear contacts, you probably use a saline solution to rinse your contacts. What solutions do you use at work? How would you calculate the amount of solute to the solvent to prepare this solution?
If you do not wear contacts but you use or make cleaning solutions for your housework, how would you accurately prepare solutions to clean?
What solutions do you use that use percent concentration?
Demonstrate how to convert the number of atoms into mass or mols.
Explain how the mol ratio is derived from the chemical equation and its fundamental importance in solving for amounts in chemical reactions. Demonstrate the use of the mol ratio in problem solving through dimensional analysis.
hanks so much for the help. I don't even know where to start..
Explanation / Answer
normally Saline solution is using to rinse contacts. nowadays to rinse contacts or cleaning, so many company product (saline solution) are available.
Normally 3-5 % sodium chloride solutions are known as saline solution.
for rinsing as well as cleaning, normally using 3-5 % solution.
If we need 4% solution, then
take 4 gram of Pure sodium chloride and mix with 100 mL of water. boil this solution and cool it then you can use. sterilization is importent for using it as contact rinser.
Percentage solution is, how much solute used in 100 ml of solvent
Eg: 10 % solution of aqueous NaCl is, 10 gram in 100 ml of water.
one mole is = avagadro number of atoms / molecules
avagadro number = 6.022 x 10 23
So 1 mole of NaCl = 6.022 x 10 23 molecules.
NaCl containing two atoms Na and Cl
So number of atoms in this 1mol of NaCl = (6.022 x 10 23) x 2
Mole ratio in reactions is, the minimum reactant requered to form a product completely.
Eg:
to form NaCl from NaOH and HCl
NaCl needed one Na and one Cl. So the reactant should atleast contain one Na and One Cl.
here, NaOH + HCl = NaCl + H2O
This ratio is 1:1 ratio because it needs one mole of NaOH and one mole of HCl from each reactant.
in the case of CaCl2
we need one Ca and two Cl atoms. so we need 1:2 mole ratio.
CaCO3 + 2HCl = CaCl2 + CO2 + H2O
one mole of Calcium carbonate and two mole of Hydrochloric acid are needed to form one mole of calcium chloride.
this is importants of mole ratio in the chemical reactions.
