Question
If temperature increases, vapor pressure _______________ (increases/decreases)? Why?
If temp increases, Kinetic energy of molecules increase. Molecules in high-energy tail of the distribution that have kinetic energies greater than the attractive force between molecules in the condensed (liquid or solid) phase also increases. I have got both answers, some say vapor pressure increases & some say it decreases.
An increase in vapor pressure makes sense than a decrease if temperature rises. But please explain which one is true and how ?
Explanation / Answer
Vapor pressure increases with increase of temperature, because at high temperatures most of the molecules have sufficient enrgy to convert from liquid to gas.
vapor pressure depends upon the following parameters
1. surface area
2. The nature of molecules
3. Temperature
