Question 18 of 26 In Sapling Learning Map The structure of the coordination sphere of chlorobis (ethylenediamine)nitrocobalt(Ill) bromide, [Co(en)2NO2CI]Br, is given below. Note: charges and ions are omitted for clarity. [Co(en) 2NO2CIBr This structure is N- chiral NII, ...wilN O optically active Co octahedral ci tetrahedra Compared to the structure above, the following is a(n) Compared to the structure above, the following is a(n) A e Previous 8 Give Up & view solution Check Answer 0 Next l Exit HintExplanation / Answer
1)
[Co(en)2 NO2Cl]Br has an octahedral structure.
2) Linkage isomer
Compared to structure above, this compound is linkage isomer of above. The cationic cobalt complex exists in two separable linkage isomers. In the yellow-colored isomer, the nitro ligand is bound through nitrogen. In the red linkage isomer, the nitrito is bound through one oxygen atom. The O-bonded isomer is written as [Co (en)5(ONO)]2+.
3) Optical isomer
Compared to structure above, this compound is optical isomer of above. Optical isomerism is common in octahedral complexes involving didentate ligands. Optical isomers are molecules that have the same molecular formula, but have a different arrangement of the atoms in space. That excludes any different arrangements which are simply due to the molecule rotating as a whole, or rotating about particular bonds. In this structure position of Cl is different from above structure.
