OH iii. Stylopine f) A 1500.0 mg sample of Stylopine and its enantiomer was dissolved in a solution with a 25 volume of 6.00 ml and placed in a 5.00 cm 300 polarimeter tube. The rotation was found to be +6.000 when measured at 25 oC. What is the enantiomeric excess of this sample (closest value)? g) How many mg of Stylopine are present in the sample? Copyright O D. T. Explanation / Answer

A) with specific rotation of pure enantiomer -100 degree for other enantiomer

enantiomeric excess = -10 x 100/-100 = 10%

so we have 10 + 90/2 = 55% of major enantiomer (of total mixture)

and, 45% of other enantiomer (of total mixture)

B) concentration of solution = 1.5 g/6 ml = 0.25 g/ml

specific rotation of pure enentiomer = +300 degree

enantiomeric excess = +6 x 100/+300 = 2%

So we have 2 + 98/2 = 51% of major enantiomer

49% of minor enentiomer in the mixture

g) mg of stylopine present = 0.51 x 1.5 x 1000 = 765 mg
