Hi.
I am doing a project for my technical writing class. So, I am require to interview someone in the field that I plan to apply for, which is chemical engineering. I will be glad if there is someone who can answer the questions in the attached document.

What are your main responsibility as a chemical engineer?

What do you like the most and the least about your work?

What kind of problem do you deal with?

How does your job affect your general lifestyle?

What current issues and trends in the field should I know about/be aware of?

What are some common career paths in this field?

What related fields do you think I should consider looking into?

How did you begin your career?

How do most people get into this field? What are common entry-level jobs?

What steps would you recommend I take to prepare to enter this field?

How relevant to your work is your undergraduate major?

What kind of education, training, or background does your job require?

What skills, abilities, and personal attributes are essential to success in your job/this field?

What is the profile of the person most recently hired at my level?

What are the most effective strategies for seeking a position in this field?

Can you recommend trade journals, magazines or professional associations which would be helpful for my professional development?

What advice would you give someone who is considering this type of job (or field)?

What do you consider professional communication in this job/field? Examples?

How often and in what ways do you use email, phone, fax, letters, conferences, memos, reports, proposals, websites, meetings, social media or digital tools to do collaborative work, etc.?

Are verbal and written means of communication used for different purposes where you work? Does one or the other seem more useful? Can you explain?

How often do you revise your written work before it's ready to send out? Who approves your written work before it leaves the office? Do you write alone or as part of a team?

How did your education prepare you for the communication tasks (written and verbal) your job requires? How didn't your education prepare you?

Were there any surprises in the job requirements/descriptions?

Do you have any advice concerning how to prepare for my first (or next) job after college?

Explanation / Answer

Q1.

What are your main responsibility as a chemical engineer?

Chemical Engineers are in charge of designing, producing, distributing and marketing products for daily life. They are in charge of chemical aspects such as kinetics, thermodynamics, energy consumption, mass balances, etc... Also they will design efficient processes for production of new chemicals. The main responsability also includes being environmental friendly with the products/processes.

Q2.

What do you like the most and the least about your work?

The best part is to actually create new "stuff" form designing how it will be, asking customers what they need, and understanding the chemical properties required. Then actually building a chemical plant/process to manufacture such product. Eventually, operate the plant with the daily tasks, and finally to ship to the customer.

The least one could like about work is that plenty of processes are not environmental friendly and many will actually pollute the air/water/soil. That is not nice, specially if you know what does that implies for our ecosystem

Q3 What kind of problem do you deal with?

Insufficient technology, increasing efficiency, lowering costs, change in chemical properties of your raw material. Also, very imoprtant to consider human capital as a very important resource. Manpower is very important as well, and dealing with it can lead to problems.

How does your job affect your general lifestyle?

Typically, you require a schedule, plants are away from city centres , so you need to travel a lot via car/bus/train
