Question
Write a balanced equation and net ionic equation when each pair of aqueous solutions are mixed. The answers in blue are what I have started but I have not finished (and I am unsure if it is correct)
3. Write a balanced equation and net ionic equation when each pair of aqueous solutions are mixed (a perchloric acid (HClO4) and potassium hydroxide (KoH) Balanced equation: HCio4 +KOH H20 KCIO4 Net ionic equation: (b) sodium carbonate and nickel chloride Balanced equation. Na2CO3+ Nici2 Net ionic equation:Explanation / Answer
a) KOH(aq) + HClO4(aq) ---------------> KClO4(aq) + H2O(l) (overall molecular equation)
K +(aq) + OH-(aq) + H+(aq) + ClO4(aq) K+(aq) + ClO4-(aq) + H2O(l) ( total ionic equation)
Cancel out all the like ions which appear on both sides, which further gives a net ionic equation corresponds to the molecular equation.
H+(aq) + OH-(aq) H2O (net ionic equation)
b) NiCl2(aq) + Na2CO3(aq) ------------------> NiCO3(s) + 2 NaCl(aq) ( This is the overall molecular equation)
Ni2+(aq) + 2Cl- (aq) + 2Na+(aq) + CO32-(aq) -------------> NiCO3 (s) + 2Na+(aq) + 2Cl- ( Overall ionic equation corresponds to the above molecular equation.
Now, please discard all the ions which are common on both sides.
Ni2+(aq) + CO32-(aq) NiCO3 (s) (net ionic equation).
Thank you and good luck.
