Question

Which has the larger radius, N^3- or P^3- ? Explain. (You may use a periodic table.) Arrange the following in order of increasing ionic radius: F^-, Na^+, and N^3-. Explain this order. (You may use a periodic table.) Arrange the following in order of increasing ionic radius: I^-, Cs^+, and Te^2+. Explain this order. (You may use a periodic table.) Use Lewis symbols to show the reaction of atoms to form hydrogen selenide, H_2Se. Indicate bonding pairs and lone pairs in the electron-dot formula of this compound. Use Lewis symbols to show the reaction of atoms

Explanation / Answer

Firstly the question wrongly states Te2+. It should be T2-.

The increasing order is:

Cs+ < I- < Te2-

This is because Cs+ is a cation so it has the smallest charge, and Te2- has larger size than I- because it has 2 extra electrons which create more replusion and hence larger radius.
