Only questions 6,7,8,9 thanks

The table below contains the data collected in one run of the reaction between an unknown and hydrochloric acid:

Initial Weight of container and unknown

Torr

The following questions deal with the above data. The appropriate units are specified in the questions. Pay close attention to the number of significant figures in your answers.

Question 1

What is the volume of CO2 captured in the gas phase (in mL)?

Enter Your Answer:        35.6 Correct

Question 2

What is the number of mmols of CO2 captured in the gas phase? (Remember to account for the vapor pressure of water.)

Enter Your Answer:        1.44 Correct

Question 3

What is the weight of the sample in grams?

Enter Your Answer:        0.1900 Correct

Question 4

What weight of sample (in grams) would be required to produce 35. mL CO2 (g)?

Enter Your Answer:        0.187 Correct, but too many significant figures

Question 5

What weight of sample (in grams) that would be required to produce 55. mL CO2 (g)?

Enter Your Answer:        0.294 Correct, but too many significant figures

Question 6

When the CO2 has been completely collected, what is the partial pressure (in atm) of CO2 (PCO2) in the system?

Enter Your Answer:        0.58 Incorrect

Question 7

Assuming the liquid phase (aqueous HCl) is primarily water, what is the concentration (in mol/L) of CO2 in the liquid phase assuming Henry's Law (concentration is proportional to partial pressure)?

Enter Your Answer:

Question 8

What is the number of mmol of CO2 in the liquid phase?

Enter Your Answer:

Question 9

What is the total number of mmol of CO2 liberated in the reaction of the sample with HCl?

Enter Your Answer:

Explanation / Answer

Step I

Henry's Law is given as -

p = kH c

Step II

kH value for CO2 = 29.4 L.atm/mol

Partial pressure of CO2, p = 0.58 atm

Step III

Concentration of CO2 , c = p / kH

c = 0.58 / 29.4

c = 0.0197 mol/L

Step IV

Number of mmol of CO2 in liquid phase = 1000 x c x V

n = 19.7V = 19.7 x 35.6 = 702.313 mmol

Step V

Total number of mmol of CO2 liberated = 19.7 x 10 = 197

If there is any change in volume just put it in the formulas and you will get the answer.
