Question

Question 3: Discuss this problem with your partner, decide together on an answer and how to defend it. You have 5 minutes. Trey and Ashely have to complete two different reactions in the lab, and decide to split the work. Before Trey does the experiment, he predicts that the maximum amount of pr oduct he can obtain is 3.564 e. Ashely predicts that she should obtain 5.432 g. They finish their experiments pretty quickly. After filtering and drying the product, Trey weighs it and finds that he obtained 3.110 g. Ashely does the same to hers, and finds out that she obtained 5.510 g 1) What was the percent yield of each experiment? 2) Which experiment was more successful? Explain.

Explanation / Answer

q.3)

1) percent yield = practical yield / theoretica yield*100

trey , practical yield = 3.110 g

    theoretica yield = 3.564 g

percent yield = (3.110/3.564)*100 = 87.26%

Ashely , practical yield = 5.510 g

    theoretica yield = 5.432 g

percent yield = (5.510/5.432)*100 = 101.435%

2) as per the results, Ashely does the experiment more sucess ful than Trey, because ashely error is less.
