Question
Which of the following is important concerning the preparation of a buffer?
a) Having the same large concentrations of the weak acid and conjugate base.
b) Using a weak acid and its' conjugate base or generating its conjugate base by titrating a weak acid with a strong base to around the half titration point.
c) Choosing a weak acid with a pKa very close to the pH of the buffer solution.
d) All of the above are important
Please also EXPLAIN how you came to your answer. This question has been asked on chegg three times so far and each time it has a different answer. I want to make sure this answer is correct.
Explanation / Answer
answer: d) All of the above are important
pH of acidic bufefr = pka + log(conjugate base/acid)
if conjugate base/acid = 1
pH = pka , at this point buffer capacity will be maximum.so that it will be good buffer.to do this all the above points must be followed.
