URGENT!!!! I need help figuring out which product I have, attached is the H’NMR of the product. I also attached the IR spectrum. * I used a solvent for the IR so I attactched both the product IR and the solvent IRe Grighard reagent phenylmagnesium bromi and treat it with an unknown carbonyl compound, as shown below. We H and/or 13C NMR data to determine the structure of our product, and t ermine what starting material was used. HO 2 unknown ketone or aldehyde Br MgBr OR HO R1 unknown ester ACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS o go intn nerforming a Grignard reaction, mainly due to the high reacti
Explanation / Answer
IR spectra cannot be useful to distinguish both products as both products contain similar functional groups such as alkyl, aromatic and hydroxy groups.
H- NMR 2.3-2.5 delta due to OH group and solvent protons
4.5 - due to one alkyl group
5.7 - due to another alkyl group
As these two alkyl group s attached to most electronegative gr OH and aromatic ring hence their chemical shift values are more I.e down field..
7.2 - 7.8 are due to aromatic protons.
From the two products first product have two alkyl group s hence the formed component is first and the reactant is ketone
