Question

Use the following information to answer the next three questions:

1.) In corn plants, a plant with a starchy endosperm (w) was mated to a yellow kerneled plant (p) with shrunken kernels (f). A wildtype individual from the F1 generation was then mated to a fully homozygous (mutant) individual. The following progeny were observed.

a) The gene order is P-F-W

b) The gene order is P-W-F

c) The gene order is W-P-F

2.) Using the same information as in the previous problem,  What is the recombination frequency between each gene pair? Round your answer to 2 decimal places. For example, 0.12345 = 0.12

recombination frequency between P/F =

recombination frequency between P/W =

recombination frequency between F/W =

3.) What is your coefficient of coincidence and your interference value for the previous data set? Use your rounded answers from the previous question. Round to 2 decimal places. For example, 0.12345 = 0.12.

Explanation / Answer

To determine gene order we have to determine which gene is in centrre

In double crossover event the two chromatids changes the orientation of the gene in the centre of the sequence with respect to two flanking alleling pairs.

By comparing the parental genotype and double cross over of gametes genotype we can see the gene changed its orientation

Coefficient of coincidence is observed double cross over / expected double cross over frequency

INterference = 1- coefficient of coincidence
