Report Sheet Q3 A sample of helium has a volume of 325 ml. and a pressure of 655 mm Hg, Whan will be the pres- sure if the helium is compressed to 125 mL. (T constank)y? (Show work.) 06 A 75.0-ml, sample of oxygen has a pressure of 1.50 atm. What will be the new volume if the pressure becomes 4.50 atm (T constant)? (Show work.) Q.7 In a weather report, the atmospheric pressure is given as 29.4 inches of mercury. What is the corresponding pressure in mm Hg?

Explanation / Answer

Q.5

This problem is based on Boyles law. This law states that for a fixed amount of gas at constant temparature, the gas volume is inversely proportional to gas pressure.

Thus P1 V1 = P2 V2

Here P1 = 655 mm of Hg , V1 = 325 ml , V2 = 125 ml , P2 = ?

P2 = (P1 V1)/V2 = (655 *325)/125 = 1703 mm of Hg

Q.6

This problem is also based on Boyles law.

Thus P1 V1 = P2 V2

Here P1 = 1.50 atm , V1 = 75.0 ml , V2 = ? ml , P2 = 4.50 atm

V2 = (P1 V1)/P2 = (1.50 *75.0)/4.50 = 25.0 ml
