Question

Part A Calculate the density of oxygen, O2, under each of the following conditions: . STP - 1.00 atm and 35.0 °C Express your answers numerically in grams per liter. Enter the density at STP first and separate your answers by a comma. Hints 2 density at STP density at 1 atm and 35 0 (0 g/L Submit My Answers Give Up Part B ig To identify a diatomic gas (X2), a researcher carried out the following experiment She weighed an empty 4.5-L bulb then filled it with the gas at 1.80 atm and 200 "Cand weighed it again The difference in mass was 95 Identify the gas Express your answer as a chemical formula. Hint

Explanation / Answer

Part A)

We know the Fromula

Density = MP/(RT)

where
M = molar mass of NO2 = 46.01 g/mol
P = pressure = 0.990 atm
R = gas constant = 0.0821 atm.L/(mol.K)
T = temperature = 34+273= 307K
So we get

Density = 46.01 g/mol x 0.990 atm / ( 0.0821 atm.L/mol.K x 307 K)

= 1.80 g/L

So answer is 1.80 g/L

.

Part B)

We have Formula

PV = nRT

Where

P = 680 Torr = 0.895 atm

V = 0.870 L

n = 2.30 g/ Molar mass

R = 0.0821 atm.L/(mol.K)

T = 34 + 273 = 307 K

So

n = PV/RT

= 0.895 atm x 0.870 L / (0.0821 atm.L/(mol.K) x 307 K)

= 0.0309 moles

n = 2.30 g/ Molar mass = 0.0309 mol

So

Molar Mass = 2.30 g / 0.0309 mol

= 74.43 g/mol
