Question
I completely understand the first 2 parts but the enthalpy is still throwing me. I thought it was related to the energy.
References This question has multiple parts. Work all the parts to get the most points. The following are isoelectronic species: O2. F, and Nat Rank them in order of increasing size Na+ Drag and drop your selection from the following list to complete the answer ionization energy F- Na+ Drag and drop your selection from the following list to complete the answer: electron attachment enthalpy Drag and drop your selection from the following list to complete the answer: 2- Na+Explanation / Answer
Solution:-
Increasing order for electron attachment enthalpy
Na+ < O2- < F-
Reason:-
Because in F- there are 2 s orbital and no of proton are 9 where as similar concept apply for o2- but proton are less so less affinity.
But for Na+ no of s orbital become 3 and s shell is sperical in shape so it has maximum sheilding effect although it has 11 proton but no of orbital have also increased and due to extra s orbital sheilding effect got increased so affinity decreases.
