The procedure for the synthesis of Tetraphenylporphyrin is , benzaldehyde is dissolved in propionic acid followed by slow addition of pyrrole (freshly distiled) under reflux conditions. Here slow addition of pyrrole is crucial step. Since the reaction is exothermic so the rate of addition must be slow. Second for this reaction you should always use freshly distilled pyrrole.
