5) pentane , toluene , diethylether low density compared water. organic extract is having in upper layer. lower layer is aqeous layer.

Dichloromethane has high density because of high molecular weight of Cl atoms(3-Cl atoms). so organic extracts in lower layer, upper layer is aqeous layer.

6)benzaldehyde, benzoic acid dissolve in dichloromethane.then add saturated sodium carbonate , seperate the layers. organic layer is having benzaldehyde, aqeous layer having benzoic acid.bottom layer (dichloromethane layer ) have benzaldehyde. aqeous layer (top layer ) have benzoic acid.

then aqeous layer acidified with 1N HCl upto pH below 7, then extract with dichloromethane having benzoic acid.

7) drying agent is anhydrous MgSO4 or NaSO4. it absorb water from the organic compound , it forms MgSO4.7H2O or Na2SO4.7H2O
