Question
I copied and pasted my exact assignment so some of the instructions are probably not relevant to actually answering the question, I just figured it was better to have the most instruction possible rather than not have an important piece of information! Thanks so much for the help!
Several assignments are described below. Each student should only do ONE assignment. Start your assignment by making a claim post with their chosen assignment number in the subject line.
The list below includes instructions common to ALL the assignments in this activity.
Show the unshared electron pairs by using the "View Settings," show electron pairs checkbox.
Next, nudge the structure over to the left-hand side of the screen. Use the select tool and click and drag a selection box around the structure. Then click, hold and drag a bond to the left. If you did it correctly, the whole structure will follow your drag.
Make a copy of this structure such that in the Marvin JS window you have two identical and horizontally aligned structures. The easiest way to do this copy is to select the entire structure once again using the select tool. Then click, hold and drag a bond this time to the right BUT THIS TIME HOLD THE CTRL KEY while you drag. When you let go of the the mouse, a copy of the structure will be pasted where you release the mouse.
Separate the two structures with a double-headed resonance arrow from the vertical toolbar.
Each of the assignments requires you to add curved arrows to the left-hand structure and appropriately rearrange the bonds, charges and electrons on the right-hand structure.
The remainder of the instructions are specific for your claimed assignment number.
Then just pick one of the assignments listed in the figure below. The structure that you need is also in the image below. Thank you so much for your help!
Instructions Delocalize the) charge to one of the oxygen atoms bonded to a benzene ring Leave the (+) charge where it is but move the pi electrons in one of the benzene rings Leave the (+) charge and introduce two new charges (t & ) on the oxygens of the 3 carboxyl group 4 Delocalize the (+) charge to the carbon labeled with the assignment number in the figure below 10 12 HO 5 4 9 12 8 or 10Explanation / Answer
Oxygen has positive charge when it is added with benzene ring but in benzene ring structure there is only two double bond and benzene ring containing one negative charge at para position.
