The vapor pressure of liquid ethyl acetate, CH COOC,Hs, is 100. mm Hg at 300 K A sample of CH,COOC,Hs is placed in a closed, evacuated 545 ml container at a temperature of 300 K. It is found that all of the CHsCOOC Hs is in the vapor phase and that the pressure is 63.0 mm Hg. If the volume of the nt temperature, which of the following statements are correct? container is reduced to 337 mL at consta Choose all that apply. Some of the vapor initially present will condense. The pressure in the container will be 102 mm Hg. Only ethyl acetate vapor will be present. No condensation will occur Liquid ethyl acetate will be present. Explanation / Answer

As all the ethyl acetate is in the vapour phase at initial state, we can apply Boyles law at constant temperature.

At constant T,

P1V1 = P2V2

P1 = 63 mm Hg

V1 = 545 mL

P2 = ?

V2 = 337 mL

=> 63 x 545 = P2 x 337

=> P2 = 102 mm Hg.

So, the correct options are,

The pressure in the container will be 102 mm Hg

Only ethylacetate vapour will be present

No condensation will occur
