Question
than any other 98. The United States chemical industry makes more sulfuric acid chemical. One process uses hydrogen sulfide from "sour" natural gas wells or petroleum refineries as a raw material. Write a balanced equation, without including states, for each of the steps leading from hydrogen sulfide to sulfuric acid: a. Hydrogen sulfide (which could be called dihydrogen monosulfide) combines with oxygen to form sulfur dioxide and water. b. The sulfur dioxide reacts with more hydrogen sulfide to form sulfur and water. (Sulfur is described as both S and Ss in chemical equations. Use Sin this equation)Explanation / Answer
Hi friend your answer is at below
a) 2 H2S + 3 O2 --> 2 SO2 + 2 H2O
b) 2 H2S + SO2 --> 3 S + 2 H2O
The above two are asked in the given question without physical states, but in the beginning they asked us to write balanced equation to get sulfuric acid so that will be as follows.
2 SO2 + O2 --> 2 SO3 and SO3 + H2O --> H2SO4
(H2SO4 is sulfuric acid & SO3 is sulfur trioxide)
to get fuming sulfuric acid (98% concentrated) SO3 is dissolved in H2SO4 to get oleum as follows
SO3 + H2SO4 --> H2S2O7 (oleum), oleum on hydrolysis with sufficient water gives fuming sulfuric acid.
