Question

NASA has identified a new microbe present on Mars and requests that you determine the genetic code of this organism. To accomplish this goal, you isolate an extract from this microbe that contains all the components necessary for protein synthesis except mRNA. Synthetic mRNAs are added to this extract and the resulting polypeptides are analyzed:

Threonine-Threonine-Threonine etc.

Glutamine-Glutamine-Glutamine etc.

Asparagine-Asparagine-Asparagine etc.

1) From these data, what specifics can you conclude about the microbe's genetic code?

2) What is the sequence of the anticodon loop of a tRNA carrying a threonine?

3) If you found that this microbe contained 61 different tRNAs, what could you speculate about the fidelity of translation in this organism?

I especially don't understand number 1.

Synthetic mRNA Resulting Polypeptides AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Lysine-Lysine-Lysine etc. CACACACACACACACA Threonine-Histidine-Threonine-Histidine etc. AACAACAACAACAACA

Threonine-Threonine-Threonine etc.

Glutamine-Glutamine-Glutamine etc.

Asparagine-Asparagine-Asparagine etc.

Explanation / Answer

1. what specifies can you conclude about the microbes genetic code ?

answer ; lysine ,aspergine ,histidine , threonine all are amino acids which are having the basic side chain and have the neutral ph value , They are hydrophoilic molecules ,non polar .so to conclude the microbes genetic code has the aminoacids which are mainly hydrophilic and non acidic ,polar .

2. what is the sequence of anticodon loop carrying the threonine ?

answer; The mRNA sequence for threonine is ACA , the t RNA anti code for this UGU which is present on the anticodon loop on the tRNA .

3. Genetic code maintains the fidelity of the organism , because they are 4 bases , 3 bases form the triplet codons ,these bases produces the 64 different aminoacid codons [ 43 ] ,in this 61 code for aminoacids and 3 act as a stop codon . so there will be t RNA s which code for these 61 aminoacids which is very precise and are very specific for each aminoacids
