Question
6-7 6 SOLUTION REACTIONS: IDENTIFYING NAME THE CONTENTS OF SEVEN BOTTLES 1315 Secti Pre-Lab Assignment As noted in the DISCUSSION, this experiment requires some advanced planning on your part. Mch of this planning can be accomplished by answering the questions listed in the DiscussiON. For convenience, these questions are reproduced here. Since you will rely on these answers to analyze and interpret your results, it is imperative that your answers are correct. If you are in doubt about any answer, please consult your instructor Complete the following table by indicating which salts (cation-anion combinations) are soluble and which are insoluble. Mg Mn2 Ag Nat Br co,2 ci OH NO3 How many salts can be made from the listed ions? Can solutions of all these salts be made? Can any salts be eliminated from consideration as an unknown? Which ones? Why? Which cation-anion combinations (salts) precipitate from solution on mixing? Which ions, if any, can be detected by a visual inspection of the seven solutions? What other solutions, if any, besides those containing the carbonate ion are basic?Explanation / Answer
1. there are 16 salts made from the list, they are copper bromide, copper carbonate, copper chloride, copper nitrate.magnesium bromide, magnesium carbonate, magnesium chloride, magnesium nitrate, manganese chloride, manganese carbonate, manganese bromide, manganese nitrate, sodium chloirde, sodium bromide, sodium carbonate, sodium nitrate.
2. there are 12salts get precipitated. they are expect hydroxides remaining all salts.
copper salts give pale blue colour ppt and corresponding acids
magnesium salts give white ppt and corresponding acids
manganese salts give pale brown ppt and corresponding acids
3. all copper salt solutions give blue colour solutions and all manganese salts give pale pink colour solutions expect manganese nitrate it is white.
4. except carbonate ion salts , only sodium hydroxide is base. other than remainimg all is acids
