Question
What happens to the storage and loss modulus of an epoxy as it cures through its gel point? The storage modulus stays above the loss modulus throughout The storage modulus is greater than the loss modulus then, with time, they cross at the gel point and the loss modulus is greater than the storage modulus. The loss modulus is greater than the storage modulus then, with time, they cross at the gel point and the storage modulus is greater than the loss modulus. The loss modulus is always greater than the storage modulus.Explanation / Answer
Initially at the start of curing the loss modulus (G'') is greater than the storage modulus (G') beacause the system show liquid type of behaviour.
Thus both G' and G'' increases as cross linking reaction proceeds to a crossover point where both elastic and viscous behaviour is observed. Later as curing process is progressed storage modulus (G') reaches maximum value and loss modulus (G'') reaches to the peak value and start decreasing.
