Question
Question 8 1 pts To the nearest ones, what is the value of the reaction quotient (Q) for the generalized reaction A + B C, provided that the initial concentrations of A, B, and C are 1.7 mM, 2.4 mM, and 4.8 mM, respectively. Recall that the reaction quotient is dimensionless. Hint: assume that the given concentrations are reasonably representative of the activities of each of these species (i.e., assume the activity coefficients are unity); you may want to re-read the Equations, Math Concepts, handout that is posted on Canvas.Explanation / Answer
Remember the definition of equilibrium constant
aA + bB cC + dD
Equilibrium constant is the relationship of products and reactants expressed like this
K = [A]a [B]b / ( [C]c[D]d )
K is the equilibrium constant, the reaction quotient Q is expressed the same way the difference is that the equilibrium constant only consider the concentrations at equilibrium whereas the Q consider the relation ship between products and reactants at any time so for your particular case
Q = [C] / ([A] [B]) all concentration have to be molarities
[A] = 1.7 mM = 0.0017 M
[B] = 0.0024 M
[C] = 0.0048 M
Q = 0.0048 / (0.0017x 0.0024) = 1176.47
approximated to the nearest ones it will be 1176
