Question

The label of a black cherry almond energy bar with a mass of 68 g lists the nutrition facts as 39 g of carbohydrate, 5 g of fat, and 10. g of protein. (2.5, 2.6, 3.4, 3.5)

Using the energy values for carbohydrates, fats, and proteins (see table below), what are the total kilocalories (Calories) listed for a black cherry almond bar? (Round off answers for each food type to the tens place.)

Express your answer with the appropriate units.

B: What are the kilojoules for the black cherry almond bar? (Round off answers for each food type to the tens place.)

C: If you obtain 160 kJ

, how many grams of the black cherry almond bar did you eat?

Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.

D:I f you are walking and using energy at a rate of 840

kJ/h , how many minutes will you need to walk to expend the energy from two black cherry almond bars?

Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.

Explanation / Answer

a) The total kilocalories that can be obtained from black cherry almond bar can be calculated from following:

from 1 gm of carbohydrate we obtain energy is= 4.0 KCal

so,from 39 gm of carbohydrate we obtain energy is= (4*39) = 156.0 KCal

similarly, from the table, from 5 gm of fat we obtain energy = (5*9) = 45.0 KCal

similarly, from the table, from 10 gm of protien we obtain energy = (4*10) = 40.0 KCal

so from one black cherry almond bar the energy that we obtain=(156+45+40) = 241.0 KCal

b) from table, for 39 gm of carbohydrate we obtain energy = (17*39) = 663.0 KJ

for 5 gm of fat we obtain energy = (38*5) = 190.0 KJ

for 10 gm of protien we obtain energy = (17*10) = 170.0 KJ

so, total energy from one bar that we can obtain = (663+190+170) = 1023.0 KJ

c) from 1 bar(68 gm) of black cherry almond bar we obtain energy = 1023.0 KJ

then, from 1gm of the bar we can obtain energy = (1023/68) = 15.04 KJ

so, 160 KJ of energy can be obtain from = (160/15.04) = 10.64 gm of black cherry almond bar.

d) The energy from two black cherry almond bars can be obtained= (2*1023.0) = 2046.0 KJ.

now, if I am walking and using the energy in the rate of 840 KJ/hour or 14 KJ/minute then I have walk to expend the energy form two bars = (2046/14) = 146 minutes.
