1- Write your hypothesis for the effect of increasing temperature on amylase activity.

2- As with last week, convert your collected data to rate form, and produce a graph of this data (rate vs. temperature). What trend does your data show, and does this support or fail to support the hypothesis you propose in #1, above?

3- Write your hypothesis for the effect of pH on amylase activity.

4- Produce a graph of the data you obtained in the lab (rate vs. pH). What trend does your data show, and does this support or fail to support the hypothesis you propose in #3, above?

Explanation / Answer

1. Hypothesis: Enzymes function well at room temperature i.e. 37 degrees. At extremely high temperature, enzyme gets denatured, whereas at low temperature it stays inactive.

3. Hypothesis: Enymes function well at physiological pH i.e. near 7. Variation in this range decreases the enzyme activity.
