Explanation / Answer

The tetrahedal shape of the CH4 Will have low energy than that of CH4 in square planar shape, because when CH4 is in tetrahedral shape (sp3 hybridisation)  only 1s and 3p orbitals undergo hybridisation while as when it is in square planar shape (dsp2 hybridisation ) 1s, 2p and 1d orbital undergoes hybridisation. Since we know that energy of d orbital is greater than energy of s and p orbitals therefore energy in tetrahedral shape will be lower than energy in square planar shape for CH4.
