Question
In lab two we tried to roll the car along a flat track, however most groups noticed that the acceleration was different traveling one direction as compared to the other because one direction was uphill (slightly) and the opposite direction was downhill (slightly). This means that a(experiment) =a(track) ± a(ill) where the plus/minus depends on whether it is uphill or downhill. While doing an experiment a group measures a(control)= 3.5cm/s^2 and a(opposite) = 6.7cm/s^2, what is a(track) and what is a(ill) in this case?
Explanation / Answer
a(experiment) =a(track) ± a(ill)
Given
a(control)= 3.5cm/s^2 = a(track) + a(ill)
a(opposite) = 6.7cm/s^2 = a(track) - a(ill)
Add both above equations, we get,
a(track) = - 5.1 cm/s^2
Substitute the same in one of the equations, we get ,
a(ill) = + 1.6 cm/s^2
