Determination of molecular weight

1. If the student by mistake took the temperature as ambient. The calculated molecular weight would be too low. the ambient temperature was lower and the relation between molecular weight FW to temperature is direct.

grams/FW = PV/RT

with T = temperature

2. Using,

molecular weight of Sx = density x gas constant x temperature/pressure

feeding the given values,             

molecular weight of Sx = 4.63 x 0.08205 x (445 + 273)/(807/760) = 256.88 g/mol

1 atm = 760 torr

273 + 445oC = 718 K
