9) Given the following picture, decide if the reaction is an acid/base HSO, HSO, HSo, HSOHSo, and also strong/weak and why? Hso. HSO, H2SOa + H2O H+ + HSO4. HSO, HSo, hSO, H H HSO, Based on the following Ka Table, which would be the weakest acid and which would be the strongest acid? 10) Compound H2C204 HCO2H HOCI HCl Ka 5.9%102 1.8x10 3.5x10- 2.0x10 Silver (I) nitrate reacts with potassium chloride. Write a balanced equation then write the ionic and net ionic equations. 11)

Explanation / Answer

9.Water is an amphoteric substance I,e it can act as an acid and a base. Since the above reaction has sulphuric acid as a strong acid, water acts as a base. Since dissociation of water is incomplete its a weak base. Hence the reaction is strong acid v/s weak base.

10. Acidic strength of an acid is directly proportional to Ka values.

Hence higher the Ka stronger is the acid. Accordingly HCl with higher Ka value is strongest acid, while HOCl with least Ka value is weakest acid.

11. AgNO3 + KCl ---------->AgCl + KNO3

Ag+ + NO3- + K+ + Cl- --------> AgCl + K+ + NO3-

Net ionic equation: Ag+ + Cl- ----------> AgCl

Note: K+ and NO3- ions are spectator ions.
