1. Identify the reagent (and its concentration) that is used to confirm the presence of each of the following b.Fe c. Zn 2. Confirmatory tests for the various ions are often colorful. Identify the confirmatory compound/ion and the color each of the following ions: lon Fe- Ni2+ AlP Confirmatory Compound/Ion Color 3. Identify the reagent that separates a. Fe from Zn. Explain the chemistry of the separation. b. Fe from Ni Explain the chemistry of the separation. e. Al from Zn Explain the chemistry of the separation,Explanation / Answer
Ans 1 :
a) Ni2+ : ammonia solution
Ammonia solution is added to nickel solution and then dimethylglyoxime reagent is added. A rose red precipitate is formed.
b) Fe3+ : K4Fe(CN)6
The iron solution forms dark blue precipitate on addition on K4Fe(CN)6 solution
c) Zn2+ : K4Fe(CN)6
First NH3 is added to make neutral pH. Then HCl is added along with K4Fe(CN)6. The grey colored precipitate is formed.
