Question

Homework 13 1. Which of the following substances is not a solution? A) air B) brass vodka copper All of the above are solutions 2. Hexane, a nonpolar solvent, will dissolve which of the following substances? A) sodium chloride ammonium acetate D) vinegar (acetic acid) E) none of the above 3. Which of these compounds would you expect to be least soluble in water? A) CH30H NaCI D) NH3 E) not enough information 4. Which of the following compounds is a strong electrolyte? A) HCI B) NaCl C) NH,CI D) NaC,H,o E) all of the above 5.) Which of the following compounds is a strong electrolyte? B) C,H,O C) C,H,O Public Information

Explanation / Answer

Answer:

1) (D) is answer.

Copper is not a solution which is pure element. All of the others are made of 2 or more different substances.

Air is a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen, Brass is a metallic alloy made from copper and zinc and Vodka is a mixture of alcohol and water.

2) (B) is correct.

Since hexane is non polar likely dissolves in non polar solvent. In the given compounds, CH3OH and NH3 are polar and NaCl is salt solution. Only oil is nonpolar so hexane is soluble in it.

3) (C) is correct.

=> Sodium chloride is highly soluble in water, CH3OH and NH3 are polar and N2 is non-polar.

=> Since water is a polar solvent, so it is dissolved in polar substances like CH3OH and NH3 much more readily than non-polar substances like N2.

=> Therefore N2 is the least soluble in water.

As per our guide lines I supposed to answer first one if there are multiple question. But I answered 3 questions for you. Please rate it.

Thank you and good luck.
