Question
2.) You are working in the lab and discover a new factor (X) that appears to play some important role in wound healing. You are provided with the information that each receptor only binds a single X. In order to better characterize the interaction of X with a putative receptor, you obtain dose- response and binding data on X and obtain the following results:
These are the data you wish to report:
1. ApproximatenumbersofXreceptormoleculespercell 2. Half-maximaldose.
3. Apparent Kd for the X receptor.
4. Anyotherdetailsthatyouthinkmightbeimportant.
Write a very concise report containing ALL the information asked and a short paragraph describing why do you think these findings might be interesting.
Explanation / Answer
1. Approximate number of X receptor molecules per cell - Concentration of (X) x Maximum specific binding /No of cells. Where Concentration of X = 10-8M; Bound X = 12 pmols and No of cells = 107 cells.
Maximum specific binding = 10-8M X 12 pmols/107= 12 X 10-4/107 = 120
2. Half maximal dose - The half maximal dose is 6 pmoles
3. At half maximal dose Kd = Concentration of (X), We know Half maximal dose = 10-10 M.
