Question

Good Morning! Ok so i have a list of compiled anhydrous masses for Na2CO3, CaSO4, and MgSO4 and I have to find the molar ratio of these anhydrous masses. ( the compiled list is from every section of chemistry, so I have different masses for different dates for each of the anhydrates) Please help and try to explain as best as possible. Id really appreciate it! (ps--> I have my set of information for NA2co3 from doing it in lab so I have like the weight of the crucible and the mass of MY anhydrite's molar mass, would this be of use?)

Explanation / Answer

Molecular weight of Na2Co3 = 2 * Na + C + 3* O = 2* 23 + 12 + 3 * 16 = 106 g Molecular weight pf CaSO4 = Ca + S + 4 * O = 136g Similarly for MgSo4 = 120g Now divide the weight you have of anhydrous Na2co3 with its molecular weight to get the molar ratio Do the same for others as well Molar ratio = mass / ( Molecular Weight )
