Abstract: In this experiment I set up 10 fish tanks with different amounts of dissolved oxygen, and fish. The temperature and amount of food was consistent. The results of this experiment showed that the amount of dissolved oxygen did have a direct impact on the number of fish that were able to live in the tank. The more fish that were added to each tank the more dissolved oxygen was needed for these fish to survive. Introduction: Background: Dissolved oxygen is oxygen that is trapped in a fluid, such as water. Since virtually every living organism requires oxygen to survive, it is a necessary component of water systems such as streams, lakes and rivers in order to support aquatic life. The dissolved oxygen is measure units of ppm or parts per million. Objective: I want to find out if the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water has a impact on the number of fish. Hypothesis: The greater the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water, the higher the number of fish will be found in that water. Materials and Methods: I would set up 10 fish tanks each having a different amount of dissolved oxygen in each one of them. I would make sure that the amount of dissolved oxygen in the tanks was consistent in each tank daily one would have 0ppm and the next one would have 2ppm and so on up to 18ppms Next I would add 1 fish at a time each day at the same time of day. I would then check each tank at 12 hour intervals and observe how many fish survive. These fish would be feed the same amount daily and the temperature of the water would be the same in each tank. Results: The dissolved oxygen from 6 to 10 and from 14 to 18 shows a repeat in the amount of fish as the dissolved oxygen i ncreases the fish population increases up to a certain number and drops back down then started increasing again. The line graph below shows the results: Discussion: The discussion would be about how the amount of dissolved oxygen determined the number of fish as the fish used up the oxygen the number decreased and when more dissolved oxygen was put back into the water the number of increased once again. Conclusion: The amount of dissolved oxygen in the water has a direct impact on the fish population.
