Question
we get no book to take home and are relying on the internet please help test TOMORROW, just got studyguide TODAY-explain the role of proteins in the cell membrane
- know which types of stubstances can move into a cell by simple diffusion
- know which types of stubstances require facilitated diffusion to move into a cell
- know which types of stubstances require ion channels to move into a cell
- explain why passive transport is called passive
- be able to defind and correctly use the following terms as they relate to cell transport:diffusion, osmosis, concentration gradient, equilibrium, solute, solvent, hypertonic, isotonic, hypotonic
- use the terms above to explain and/or predict movement in given situations (what direction will water move if a cell is surrounded by a specific concentration of solute, etc.)
- explain why active transport is called active
- describe the operation of the sodium-portassium pump
-distinguish between primary active transport and secondary active transport
- identify the role of the sodium potassium pump
- describe the process of endocytosis & exocytosis
and can u tell me if u find anws to any plz & why r u so mean to me? and tlking back & rolling ur eyes at me i never did anything to u
Explanation / Answer
-cell membrane is made of lipid bi layer. It is on either side is covered by proteins. They generally used to give extra support to the cell membrane. -The simple molecules like glucose will easily move into cell by diffusion. In this process they will move into cell based on the concentration gradient. There is no need of any energy for the transport.Their simple structure is facilitating it to go into the cell by simple diffusion. -Some complex structures such as sodium and potassium require some carriers to allow them into cell. These carriers will capture the molecules at one end and allow them to go into the cell.Carriers are the main structures required for the facilitated diffusion. -Na+ and K+ are the ions require ion channels to move into the cells. They play a major role in nerve impulse transmission. It needs ions movement based on the concentration gradient.Their movement into and out of the nerve fibre will allow the nerve impulse to trasmit through it. -Passive transport is a transport of materials from low concentration to higher concentration. If no energy is used for the transport of ions ,then it is called as passive transport. In passive transport no need of energy is because of the small structure of the transporting ions as they can easily go through the cellular membrane. So,it needs no energy.Thats why it is said as passive transport. -Diffusion:Movement of ions from low concentration to high concentration is called Diffusion. Osmosis: Movement of water molecules or ions from high concentration to low concentration through semi or selectively permeable membrane.
