In the lab, if I were to put a special balloon that is permeable to water but not to sucrose (to make an 'artificial cell) into a beaker, and the balloon is filled with a solution of 20% sucrose and 80% water while the beaker is filled with a solution of 40% sucrose and 60% water, the solution in the balloon is __________ relative to the solution in the beaker?Isotonic, hypotonic, hypertonic, hydrophobic, or hydrophilic
I thought that since the percentage of sucrose in the beaker is higher than the percentage of sucrose in the balloon, the balloon would be hypertonic relative to the solution in the beaker. Is this correct? If not, why?????

Tonicity of a solution depends on the concentration of solutes which cannot cross the membrane[in this case, the balloon]. In this case the solute is sucrose which is more in concentration in the beaker than in the balloon. Hypertonicity and hypotonicity depend on the concentration of the solute in both the balloon and the beaker.
