answer-
I. Cold war definition-1948 to 1953 saw the Cold War reaching its peak. During 1948-1949 Soviet Union tried to blockade the Western-held sectors of West Berlin but was unsuccessful. North Atlantic Treaty Organisation was formed in 4th April 1949 by the union of United States and its European Allies. In that very year NATO formed a unified military command to stop Soviet Union presence in Europe. In the same year American monopoly on atomic bomb was ended by Soviets as they exploded their first atomic warhead. In 1949 in mainland China, Chinese communist came into power. In 1950 US supported South Korea was invaded by communist government of North Korea which was supported by Soviets and the war went on till 1953. Due to the death of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin in 1953 the tension of Cold War was relaxed from 1953 to 1957. Warsaw Pact was formed in 1955 where military organisations of Soviet bloc countries got unified. In the same year West Germany was admitted into NATO. Then again a intense tension of Cold War was started from 1958 and went on till 1962.
B.And Discussion- After the World War II United States, United Kingdom and Soviet Union had important conferences such as Yalta and Potsdam and decided to split Germany and its capital Berlin in two parts- east and west. Western portion was controlled by United States, the United Kingdom, and France and the Eastern portion was controlled by Soviet Union alone. Moreover Soviet Union had influences on governments of several Eastern European states by which prompt formation of loyal communist puppet regimes was possible. United States was afraid of this Eastern Bloc and their foreign policy dealt with containment of the spread communism wherever it was possible. This tension of two super powers brought the world into an era of Arms Race.
