Question
Excel 2010 formulas paste: changes when edit formula
I am trying to use a formula to count the number of cells with information on one tab and insert on another ( =COUNTA('Week 2'!$B$5:$B$24) ). It works for the first one, but when I copy and paste it down the column to use it for the different tabs and then change the "tab" information in the formula, it changes ALL the formulas to the revised one. I've tried with and without the absolutes, with and without the "week #" in the tab name and it doesn't make any difference.
After reading some of the other help discussions, I have done this with all my browsers closed and I don't have Skype installed on my computer.
Any other suggestions anyone?
Explanation / Answer
Hi..
I think your formula must be in a column of a Table.
By default when you change a formula in a column of a table the same formula is copied to the other Table cells in that column.
Either change the Table to a simple range of cells: Right-click in the table > Table > Convert to Range
Or, if you want the Table functionality, File > Options > Proofing > Autocorrect Options > AutoFormat As you Type > clear Fill formulas in tables to create calculated columns.
